Owning a dog can be a very rewarding and fun experience. However, what many owners do not take into account is the training that their dog will need if they are to become the best pet possible.
Owning a dog is just like having a child. They learn how to behave by the boundaries that you set. It is not realistic to purchase a dog and expect them to just fit into your routine without any guidance from you. Without training your dog could develop a wide range of behavior problems that could be difficult to eliminate. So if you do want a pleasurable dog owning experience then it is vital that you teach your dog good behavior.
You do not have to go over the top with training if you do not want to. Just teaching your dog basic good behavior is enough. The following commands are the basic, most helpful commands that you should teach your dog:
• Sit
• Down
• Stay
The above are just a few simple commands that will help you to teach your dog good behavior. "Sit" and "Down" commands will help you to control your dog if and when it is needed. For example, if you teach your dog to sit, you can successfully control them throughout the day if they get a little overexcited. It is one of the most vital commands in the fact that it shows the dog that you are the boss. Giving the sit and down commands give the dog a chance to calm down, too.
The stay command is also extremely helpful. Once taught, you can successfully stop your dog if they try to run away from you. You can also tell your dog to stay if you quickly need to get something or if a visitor comes to your home and you do not want your dog to run to the door.
By teaching simple commands such as the ones mentioned, you can successfully teach your dog good behavior.
How to Train your Dog
The key to training your dog is to be persistent and patient. All commands are taught by never giving up and never losing your temper. This may be difficult to do but it is vital if you want to train your dog without making them fearful. It has to be fun; otherwise your dog will not want to take part. So try to find a good motivator. For many dogs their motivator is treats and for others it is a favorite toy. Whatever motivates your dog, use it only for training purposes.
You have to take part in training every single day. Try to keep the training sessions short too in order to avoid boredom. If your dog becomes bored during training then they will give up and you could risk losing all of the hard work that you have put into training. So keep sessions short, keep them fun and just be persistent. Your dog will learn eventually.
Overall, dog training is vital if you want a well behaved pet. Just basic commands will help you to teach good behavior. Whatever training you do give your dog, just remember to be patient and persistent and that way you will get the results that you require.
