Halon Extinguisher or Halon Fire Extinguisher - Do Your Research

Owning at least one fire extinguisher in every household or business is very important. There are a multitude of options when it comes to fire extinguishers and it is best to know your options before you buy. A great option is a Halon extinguisher, because unlike other types it does not leave a residue behind on your belongings. This is very important to avoid ruining or damaging electronics and important documents. The Halon agent displaces oxygen, removes heat from the combustion zone and in turn causes a chemical chain reaction causing the fire to subside.

Unfortunately, halon has been banned from new production, besides for military use, as of January 1, 1994 as its properties cause the ozone layer to be ruined and has a long atmospheric lifetime, usually 400 years. Although production of new Halon fire extinguishers has been banned, the reuse is still legal. Currently Halotron I, Halotron II, FE-36 Cleanguard and FM-200 are intended to be replacements with significantly reduced ozone damage potential. Halon 1301 and 1211 are being replaced with new halocarbon agents which have no ozone damaging properties and short life spans in the atmosphere, but they are less effective in the extinguishing of fires.

If you wish to purchase a disposable and easy to own fire extinguisher, try a blend of two types of Halon fire extinguishers. Halon 1211-1301 blend is effective fire extinguisher that contains a proprietary blend of the "liquid streaming agent", Halon 1211, and the gaseous "total flooding agent", Halon 1301. The blend's power is in the Halon 1301, which are both a fire fighting agent and a propellant. These compact, lightweight extinguishers are low maintenance and non-rechargeable.

If you are looking for a fire extinguisher that is not an eyesore there are Halon extinguishers with chrome finishes to add to any house hold. One great model is the H3R MODEL A344TC - Halon 1211. This model was made for and is typically used in cockpits and cabins of aircraft. It is very light weight at only 2.3 pounds and only 10 inches tall. This model discharges the Halon 1211 agent for 10 seconds at a distance of up to 12 feet. This is the smallest rechargeable Halon extinguisher on the market.

If you are looking for a more powerful Halon extinguisher that still has that chic chrome finish there is also the H3R MODEL C352TSC - Halon 1211. This model is slightly heavier than the last, weighing in at 4.9 pounds. On the plus side this more powerful extinguisher also sprays for 10 seconds, but at up to 15 feet away. This is a great feature, as the further away from the actual fire you are, the less likely you are to be burned or injured. This model was also originally created for the cockpit or cabin of an aircraft.
