What You Need to Know About Ventless Gas Fireplaces

Ventless Gas Fireplaces are fireplaces where you basically don’t need a chimney to allow the venting of the hot air.  This is a great option where you simply cannot install a chimney or vents where you want to install a fireplace.  These fireplaces are also far less expensive compared to the traditional fireplace and come in many different styles that fit your home décor.

Ventless Gas Fireplaces Not The Only Ventless Kind

Although most people think that the ventless fireplaces use propane or logs, there are many different types of fireplaces.  The first type of fireplace you can buy is one that runs off gels.  These gels burn just like wood and even bring the same experience as the same smell and crackling is produced.

The most common type however is Ventless Gas Fireplaces that use natural gas as fuel.  This freestanding gas fireplace is very effective in providing additional heat to your home and is great for close gatherings over the fireplace.  You do have to make sure that it connects to a gas source.  Some of them actually burn alcohol rather than gas for a cleaner result.

Buying Considerations for Ventless Gas Fireplaces

When buying a fireplace, you must think about how much area you need covered.  If you’re looking to use it as décor, then you probably don’t want something too big that will heat up the room quickly.  If you’re looking for an effective source of heat, you have to make sure that the one you’re buying is big enough to deliver the adequate heating.

If you’re in doubt whether the one you’re buying is right for the space you have, you should ask the manufacturer and the company installing it.  Buying the right size will also save you money as bigger fireplaces are much more expensive than smaller ones.

Important Note about Safety Issues With Ventless Gas Fireplaces

While adding a Ventless Gas Fireplace can be great for your home, you have to be aware of the dangers.  It’s important that you make sure how it works and what steps you have to take to prevent carbon monoxide from building up in your home.  This can be fatal so it’s recommended that you have carbon monoxide detectors to alert you in case the levels get too high.

The amount of carbon monoxide a freestanding gas fireplace produces is much lower than a traditional one with a chimney but it still does pose a threat.  Some of these fireplaces come with a detector that automatically shut off the flames if there is too much carbon monoxide or oxygen depletion.  You can also read the operation manual.  Most recommend that the limit is 5-6 hours but note that it may differ based on the size of the room and intensity of the heat.

So those are some of the things you need to know before installing a fireplace in your home.  Ventless ones are a great choice if you can’t afford the price of setting up a traditional one.  They also add something a little special to your home.   When purchasing Ventless Gas Fireplaces the buyers should do adequate research and learn what’s involved so they can purchase the right one and still keep their home safe.

Woodburning fireplaces are very romantic and beautiful, but they're also very messy and they smell hideous in the morning! I'd go for a ventless gas fireplace any day.
